A word from our Athlete....................
"Well I am pretty glad that is over!!! Myself, along with 36,000 other incredibly stupid people ran the London Marathon on Sunday 25th April 2010 – all the training, eating the right stuff, not drinking (as much) proved to be completely not worth it…the pain was horrendous!!!
What was amazing though was seeing so many mates in the crowds…from our side of the barriers it was pretty incredible…so while I was being overtaken by a bloody Lucozade Bottle, a Bumble Bee, a Leprechaun and countless blokes over 60 (apparently), I was at times thinking “you know what I am going to just stop and vanish into the crowd” but then a few trusted friends would appear shouting abuse or general stuff about the colour of my hair and that gave me another mile or two…
The whole experience so far has somewhat been one of the best experiences of my life; and most painful…I did hear one women turn round to a bloke at the end and say “the only thing that is more painful than that was giving birth to my twins” – now I can safely say I know what it is like to have children!!!
Oh, and you probably want to know the time…I crossed the line in 3hrs 57mins and 26seconds and have been placed 10173 out of 36,549 finishers… I went out to do it in 3 ½ hours but no longer than 4hrs…so I am one very happy and extremely sore Ollie Ginge Williams….
However it doesn’t end there unfortunately as now I have to get back on the streets and begin the final push for the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 23rd May 2010!!! I will be 100% honest…that thought fills me with absolute dread!!
The most important part of all is the great opportunity for me to raise funds for the PSP charity, currently standing £1,600 and counting. It’s still not too late to dig deep!!!"
