Union Square Extravaganza

Aberdeen was brought to a standstill as 60,000 shoppers flocked to the opening of the new Union Square Shopping Centre.

Experiential specialists Kreate were charged with providing the full launch entertainment programme, health & safety and logistics to herald the latest addition to Aberdeen’s retail landscape.

A 100-piece ‘flash mob’ opened up the celebrations in the central atrium, supported by, amongst others, stilt walking bagpipers, giant dogs, singing robots, break dancing Dads and grannies on segways (yes, grannies on segways). A veritable smorgasbord of entertainment to suit all pallets!

The day climaxed with a pipe band procession through the streets of Aberdeen, followed by youth and community groups

forming a lantern parade. The event was closed by a storming set from the fantastic ‘Red Hot Chilli Pipers’ on the central atrium stage.

The £275 million development has attracted major high street stores to Aberdeen, such as Hollister, Apple and Zara.

There are also restaurants and a cinema at the Guild Street site, as well as a hotel and 1,700 parking spaces.
